The Congressional Award Youth and the Great Outdoors Dinner
In the spring of 2012, the Congressional Award Foundation will hold its first annual Youth and the Great Outdoors Dinner in Washington, DC. This event will advocate the importance of preserving, maintaining and exploring the Great Outdoors – one of the main components of the Congressional Award program. Preserving and protecting our nation’s natural resources continues to be a focus of this Congress, as well as countless youth across the country who contribute their time to maintaining trails and parks and exploring their natural wonders. This dinner will focus on states located in the Western United States - Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming - which together are home to nearly 5,000,000 acres of national parks. This area is also significant because of the Award’s rich history in these states, especially Wyoming, home of the late Senator Malcolm Wallop, who helped create the Congressional Award. Representatives from these states, the Department of the Interior, along with members of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and House Natural Recourses Committee will be invited to participate in this event.
