Remembering the ‘Senator’s Senator’ Thad Cochran

June 5, 2019 (Washington, D.C.) – The Congressional Award family is saddened to hear of the passing of former U.S. Senator Thad Cochran.

Senator Cochran (5th from right) recognizes Congressional Award recipients in 2000.

Serving in Congress for more than four decades, in both the Senate and House, Thad was affectionately known as the “quiet persuader.” Soft spoken, but powerful. He represented elegance and civility in policy-making.

The Congressional Award Foundation was fortunate enough to work with Senator Cochran on multiple initiatives in Mississippi. As a nation, we will strive to use his example of dignity and respect in our pursuits and daily interactions.

Our condolences are with Thad’s far-reaching band of supporters during this time of grieving.
