The Congressional Award Mississippi Statewide Ceremony will recognize 38 youth from across the Magnolia State for their goal-setting achievements in four program areas: voluntary public service, personal development, physical fitness, and expedition/exploration.

The event will also commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Mississippi Congressional Award program presented through Mississippi 4-H and Mississippi State University Extension.

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (MS) and U.S. Representative Gregg Harper (MS-03) will present the awards on behalf of Congress.

16 WAPT News Anchor Keegan Foxx will serve as the master of ceremonies.

Dr. Gary Jackson, Director of Mississippi State University Extension; and Dr. Linda Mitchell, Regional Extension Coordinator for North Mississippi Research and Extension Center and member of The Congressional Award Foundation’s Board of Directors; will provide remarks.

The Congressional Award is the U.S. Congress’ only charity and the highest honor bestowed upon a young person through the Senate and House. Established by Congress as a public-private partnership in 1979 under Public Law 96-114, the program recognizes initiative, service, and achievement in youth ages 13 ½ – 23.
