The Congressional Award North Carolina Statewide Ceremony & 4-H Kick-Off presented by Smithfield Foods will recognize Congressional Award Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalists and showcase the Foundation’s 4-H partnership in the Tar Heel State.

The kick-off will also embrace the spirit of The Congressional Award and 4-H programs by organizing an on-site service project. Youth participants will assemble hundreds of hygiene kits for deployed U.S. military service members.

Approximately 100 attendees, including Members of Congress, youth Congressional Award Medalists and family/friends, corporate and community leaders, and partnering organizations.

Smithfield Foods, a global food company and the world’s largest pork processor and hog producer, will serve as the Title Sponsor.

U.S. Representatives Richard Hudson (NC-08) and Alma Adams (NC-12) will present the awards on behalf of Congress.

The event will also welcome special guest NASCAR Driver Aric Almirola of Stewart-Haas Racing.

The Congressional Award is the U.S. Congress’ only charity and the highest honor bestowed upon a young person through the Senate and House. Established by Congress as a public-private partnership in 1979 under Public Law 96-114, the program recognizes initiative, service, and achievement in youth ages 13 ½ – 23.
