Why I Joined
Sammy received her Congressional Gold Medal in June 2019, and is grateful for the life lessons, experiences, and people she met through the Award Program. She is excited to have the opportunity to give back to the organization that inspired her to become involved in her community from a young age and taught her the value of maintaining balance in life.
Program Highlight Area
One of Sammy’s personal development goals was to improve her cooking skills. Over the course of earning the Award, Sammy learned how to make traditional Japanese food from her grandparents, which allowed her to become more comfortable in the kitchen and connect to her heritage. Sammy enjoys learning about different cultures and cuisines, and trying new recipes and food.
